Safer Internet Day - 11 February 2014

We're supporting Safer Internet Day (known as SID) 2014, which takes place on 11 February 2014.

We're supporting Safer Internet Day (known as SID) 2014, which takes place on 11 February 2014. This years' SID theme is 'Let's create a better internet together', and will focus on the creative things that children and young people are doing online. It is also a chance to think about the roles and responsibilities we all have in helping to create a better internet.

To support SID 2014, we want to help children and adults learn how they can choose films to watch on the internet safely. We’ll also be discussing how we can help mobile phone operating companies decide what type of content needs to have parental controls.

We’ll be using the our website, newsletters, podcast and twitter feed to tell young people and parents about how they can choose age-appropriate films to stream or download

There will be some brand new games here on our Children’s website, to explore and understand why it’s important to check the age rating of a film before watching it online. We’ll also have a special poll that asks all about how people watch films online, as well as two short videos:

  • For parents, focusing on BBFC age ratings for online video platforms and our work with mobile phone operators

  • For young people, about how to use our BBFCinsight to choose films to watch online that are right for their age group, and check if there is anything in the film that they might not want to watch.
